Paul's Slide Deck from the OKC Tech Tour!
OKC, You're Kind of a Big Deal 🙌🏼
A Letter from Paul Singh
April 27th, 2018
Thank you for carving out some time from your busy schedules this week to come hang out with me, Joshua and the rest of the community! (And thanks to StarSpace46, OU, Thunder LaunchPad, GE and everyone else that let us hang in their offices!)
Y'all have a really good thing going there in OKC. Like, really good. You've got a great mix of entrepreneurs, investors and community leaders. And, even better, you don't have very many gatekeepers. (Well, except a few, but I'll handle those on my own. 😉) And, for anyone that's keeping score, we're going to dive into diligence into at least two local companies today and make a direct investment.
On that note, I have some parting advice for each of you in the community:
- If you're an entrepreneur, the best thing you can do for yourself, your family and your community is to be impatient about your growth. If you don't have any revenue today, your goal is to earn at least $1,000 within the next 30 days. If you do already have revenue, your goal is to grow by at least 10% in the next 30 days. Build your company and be a good role model for others, in that order.
- If you're an investor, the best thing you can do for yourself, your family and your community is to look at as many deals as you can (and, if you're interested, make at least one investment – as little as $1,000 via AngelList Syndicates – anywhere on the planet within the next 30 days). In the worst case, you'll be able to help raise the bar on OKC's entrepreneurs by telling them what you're seeing everywhere else. In the best case, you'll not only help raise the bar but you'll get on the cap table of some winners. 💸
- If you're a community leader, the best thing you can do for yourself, your family and your community is to focus your efforts on doing whatever it takes to help OKC's entrepreneurs grow faster. I know you're already doing so much but, if you're really focused on getting OKC to the next level, we need OKC's entrepreneurs growing (and talking) like their peers everywhere else.
To be honest, I'm not sure how to wrap this up so I'll leave you with this: regardless of what side of the table you're on, I hope you will consider the idea that an injection of urgency into OKC's community could be the best thing that could happen in 2018.
Have a great weekend. And thanks again for being so kind and welcoming to me. I'll be back in 2018 -- with the Airstream and the entire family in tow.
